    The IMS ARCS team hosted a stand at the 5th IMS workshop, hosted by Fraunhofer Fokus in Berlin.  The IMS ARCS team in TSSG lead the IMS ARCS project which developed an architecture for and implemented a number of end user and enabling services utilising the FOKUS Open IMS Core for demonstration. The team demonstrated a number of these services including a Context enabled Journey planner and a location aware Yellow Pages service.     Robert Mullins presented a paper, "An Architecture for IMS Services Using Open Source Infrastructure " at the Manweek conference in Venice on the 26th October. The paper addressed how the IMS ARCS project used open source software and tools to develop a set of end user services and enabling services deployed upon OpenIMS.     The IMS ARCS team attended the IMS World Forum 2009 event hosted in the Hotel AB Skipper in Barcelona. The IMS World Forum is the foremost conference for IMS in Europe, and focuses on the challenges and opportunities presented by IMS, together with an appraisal of the current state of the industry and where things are going. It is well attended by operators, vendors, developers and consultants who are active in the IMS marketplace.

    Robert Mullins, IMS ARCS Project Manager, demonstrated the Location Based Home Help service at a live application demo session organised by Ericsson. Robert also delivered a presentation at the conference entitled "Developing and Testing IMS Services Using Open Source Tools and Platforms".

    The IMS ARCS team will host a stand at the ICT Mobile Summit, 2009, being held in Santander, Spain. The team will demonstrate the Public Transport Advisor service and the Location Based Home Help service, both running on the OpenIMS  Core software from Fraunhofer Fokus. Robert Mullins is also presenting a paper at the event entitled "A General Architecture for Enabling and End User services in IMS"

    Understanding the implications of this emerging connected society is critical for Ireland's academic and industrial success. The TSSG would like to invite you to a National Irish Future Internet event to be held on the 29th October 2008 in the Digital Exchange, Digital Hub in Dublin 8, Crane Street [see letter (D) on the Location Map]. The purpose of the event is to create a forum for discussing the challenges and opportunities for ICT in Ireland relating to the research and development of the Future Internet, both in terms of managing the network infrastructure, and in terms of enabling flexible service creation and deployment.

    The event will feature a number of keynote presentations from internationally renowned speakers, including a talk from Rainer Zimmermann, Head of Unit "Future Networks", European Commission, DG Information Society and Media (DG-INFSO).

  • The IMS ARCS software development team have created the initial iteration of the Context Enabler source and made this available to project stakeholders for download. The zip file contains, the source code, build files, unit tests, acceptance tests and documents containing the instructions for building and deploying this initial iteration, in addition to the instructions for installing the required open source development tools.

  • The IMS ARCS team have created an online video which allows a user see an on screen demonstration of how to run the OpenIMS testbed, how to run and configure an application and how to run the OpenIC IMS client and demonstrate a simple SIP enabled service running on the testbed.

  • The IMS ARCS team from TSSG have run  a series of technical workshops, based in Enterprise Ireland in Galasnevin, to familiarise members of the stakeholder group of companies with the OpenIMS Testbed from Fraunhofer Fokus. The workshops consist of a number of presentations on various topics relating to IMS service and enabler development. followed by a series of practical demonstrations of how to run a VMWare image of the testbed, and how to develop a simple application, using a tool such as BEA weblogic, and run and test it on the testbed.The workshops were well attended by various stakeholders, who are keen to get up to speed in this exciting field of development.
